The Power of Connection in Education: Highlights from the Attachment Innovation Challenge

Over the weekend, DEC hosted the “Attachment Innovation Challenge” in collaboration with our funded partners at WestEd. This event encouraged early educators to devise creative solutions to foster secure attachment with the children in their programs.

The day was filled with fun challenges that inspired critical thinking and imagination. The educators who participated were truly outstanding! They presented original skits, sang heartwarming songs, and created innovative educational tools from scratch, all to ensure that the children in their programs feel safe, understood, and supported. Educators even created one-of-a-kind toys using everyday materials that they can take back to their classrooms!

DEC works to ensure that every child has access to high-quality early care and education experiences. And high-quality early education is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about fostering connections and building safe spaces where children can grow and develop their potential. This event, which was just one of the many incredible workshops and trainings DEC sponsors as part of our SF Quality Connections initiative, highlighted the importance of creating a nurturing environment where children can thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.

Fostering and celebrating the profound connection between educators and children through fun events like the Attachment Innovation Challenge is a critical piece of the puzzle of supports, resources and professional development opportunities DEC funds to ensure every child in San Francisco has the best start in life and is prepared to succeed in Kindergarten and beyond.
