About Our Grant-Making
The San Francisco Department of Early Childhood Collaborates With and Funds Organizations Serving Young Children and their Families
DEC operates primarily as a grant-making organization, distributing our allocated funds to support services and activities for children, caregivers, teachers, and other providers identified through strategic planning. Our initiatives often include technical assistance and other support to enhance the quality of our services. Our main focus areas are free and reduced cost preschool, preschool quality, family resource centers, other family support and developmental screening and early intervention.
How Does My Organization Apply for Funding?
If your organization is interested in applying for a grant from the Department of Early Childhood, we accept applications during our periodically announced funding opportunities.
At DEC, We Pride Ourselves on Supporting our Grantees
If you have received a grant from the Department of Early Childhood, you will receive support and guidance from our Program Officers throughout the life of your grant. We’ll visit your site, verify your financial information, offer program advice, and review documentation of your program’s achievements. Many initiatives have multiple partners, and we will facilitate your learning from each other and provide opportunities to interact with experts in service delivery, if possible. We aim to help your program be as successful as possible through our grant funds.
