In 2023, DEC Made San Francisco an Even Better Place for Families

This year, we changed the game for parents in our city. Our new strategic plan, published this year, set the stage for lots of innovative and impactful new initiatives to serve San Francisco families. The results have already blown us away, and we are so excited to keep building these programs. To get the whole picture, check out our 2023 Annual Impact Report.

This was a historic investment in San Francisco’s young children and families. Funding from Baby Prop C is being injected into our economy. The majority of funds, $112 million, subsidized early childhood education so that more parents receive free child care than ever before. $46 million went straight to compensating educators and $23 million was invested in new child care facilities.

We are making targeted investments in clearing waitlists, supporting families through family resource centers, and reaching more families than ever with universal early development screenings

The results have been inspiring, but this is just the beginning. To learn more about everything we have been able to do this year, read our 2023 Annual Impact Report

We are working closely with our community partners to weave together family, community, and system support so that all children who grow up in San Francisco have a strong, nurturing foundation of health and learning.

Thank you for being here with us through DEC’s first full year. We are already so excited to see what we can accomplish together in 2024!
